Joe Ann & Edgar Burton

This large property in Autumn Lake Subdivision provides a view of both traditional and not so traditional landscaping. The rolling hills of the backyard space provides a great area for Edgar’s creativity to shine. This couple has created an oasis for both personal enjoyment and for entertaining larger groups. You will also be inspired by their use of a variety of plantings used in creative ways.

Directions: Travel out HWY 94. Turn right onto Penn Bonner Rd. Continue down Penn Bonner Rd. for 1 mile. Enter Autumn Lake Subdivision on your right. Follow Autumn Lake Drive  for about 8/10 miles. The Burton home will be on the right.

Patti & Claude Smithhart

The beauty of this space is in its natural woodland setting. Their home is on a rise surrounded by native trees, some that they have added in recent years. You will enjoy seeing shade plants expertly used to create a cool welcoming sense of being very close to nature. Roam the flagstone paths to view this beautiful property and also be sure to see Claude’s vegetable garden and small orchard.

Directions: Travel 4 miles past the loop on HWY 103 East. Turn right onto FM 326. Turn between stone columns at the first entrance on the right, about 0.1 miles. Go all the way to the house and park in a designated area.

Julie & Craig Wood

Welcome to Wood Farm where you will discover nearly 8 acres of fruiting bushes and vines. Explore and learn about what is primarily a blueberry farm but includes a half-acre vineyard. Craig will happily tell you about the many varieties of blueberries. You may also purchase the berries by the gallon:$15 if you pick your own or $20 if picked for you. Look for the Woods’ product on Brookshire Brothers’ shelves this summer, packaged as “East Texas Best ” blueberries.

Directions: Traveling from the loop in Lufkin, head south on Southwood Dr, turn right onto Daniel McCall. Travel 0.7 miles then turn right onto Neyland Rd. After Crossing RR tracks, go about 1 mile and enter the open gates of Wood Farm on your right. Park near the house.

Tiffany & Justin Hamilton

Hamilton Farm is 100 acres of beautiful country living. What was Justin’s grand parents’ property in 1940 is now the home of Tiffany and Justin and their two sons, Hugh and Jack. The early farmhouse sits in the shade of massive oaks on a rise near the road, but the family has plans to devel0pe the land further and move the home back on the property near a creek. You will enjoy meeting the young family and seeing their hard work in evidence around the home and in the vegetable harden.

Directions: Upon leaving the Hamilton Farm, turn right and continue down Neyland Rd. Go approximately 0.5 miles then turn right onto Tidwell Rd. The Hamilton home is on your right.

First Presbyterian Church – Pastor Dr. Brian Wiggins

Our community recognition happily points to the grounds of the First Presbyterian Church on Janeway. The beautiful landscaping was part of a larger project to build First Presbyterian Early Learning Center. Clark Condon and Associates Landscape Architects of Houston Prepared the design. Locally, James Hilliard and Sons’ carried out the design plan and completed it in 2014. This firm also takes care of management of the landscape.

Directions: Turn off of S. First at the light beside Capital One onto Janeway. Or you may turn off of Southwood onto Tom Temple St. and continue to Janeway.
